Week One...

Disclaimer:
I will try my hardest to not sound like a fake perfect family in the following post. Week one was full of several trials & tribulations, but somehow Cal makes us forget all the bad moments & we just keep going! I'm sure in time I will have plenty of horrible moments that are burned into my memory that I can share! :)

Week one came & went faster than I could have ever imagined. My memory would be lost without the pictures I took to spark the moment again in my mind. Week one was such an incredible time for Eric & I, but somehow, I can barely remember any details... I just know it was worth every second!

Height: Birth 19.5 inches. We have NO IDEA where his height came from!

Weight: Birth weight 5lbs 3oz. Day 3 Drs. appointment 4lbs 14oz.

Sleeping: Cal was your average newborn with jaundice, extra extra sleepy! :)  He slept in our arms most of the day & we made a serious attempt at the bedside bassinet at night. It did not work as well as I hoped. He was still too far for comfort & I couldn't get him in & out without getting out of bed. So on day 4 we purchased a "Snuggle Nest" and placed that in our bed. Aaamazing! The plan is to transition back to the bassinet around 4-6 weeks when have more of a nighttime routine. I still have faith!

Eating: A never ending nightmare. Every two hours we would attempt to breastfeed, syringe finger feed pumped breast milk, then try a bottle and then pump breast milk again for the next feeding. This process took an hour minimum. Which was super fun throughout the night!

Sizes: Preemie clothes! So tiny & cute! Thankfully I have the most amazing friends in the world who brought Cal brand new preemie outfits washed & ready to go! We loved them! At home Cal was mostly swaddled in a diaper & beanie to make breastfeeding & skin to skin easy. Preemie diapers :)

Routine: Survive. Make baby gain weight. Shower when possible.

Milestones: So many firsts... First bath! First walk in the stroller! Mommy's dreams come true.

Struggles: Jaundice. We expected our little preemie to battle jaundice. Thankfully Kaiser made things super easy & had a blue bili-blanket delivered to our house. Cal had to wear it 24/7. NOT FUN for either of us, but it worked like magic! After 3 solid days he was given a perfect clean bill of health!

There is no way in the world I could have done it without Eric. He is the most amazing father & husband. He keeps me on my game & always has my back. I am seriously the luckiest girl in the world. And not to brag too much, but we also have the most amazing friends & family in the world! Eric & I can't get over how blessed we are! Thank you to everyone for all your love, support, help, food, blessings & advice. THANK YOU!!!
